A sunrise can be a moment of awe-inspiring beauty; it somehow reveals the potential of a new day. At the same time, it can fill us with an awareness of our own solitude: not many people are up at dawn, at least in our culture. Nevertheless, it is when the day really begins. As the farmers’ quote goes, by dawn one is ‘burning daylight’ already.
While it is true that a new day’s work begins at dawn, a beautiful sunrise does not always persuade us to quickly begin our work. It can be a peaceful and meditative moment instead, especially when we are surrounded by the beauty of creation and reminded of the overwhelming power and goodness of God.
